Sunshine and striking autumn colours provided the backdrop for up to 200 runners, including families, who took part in the 10K Penrith Rotary Club Trail Run and 4K Fun Run in Lowther Park on Sunday. The course follows areas of the park not normally available for public access. Once again the event attracted competitors from a wide area. Courtesy of Lowther Estates Trust the main course took the runners from Hackthorpe Village Hall along the Deer Park to Whale, before turning alongside the river towards Lowther Castle, Newtown then back through parkland to Hackthorpe.
First man home was Jonathan Cox Eden Runners in a time of 00:40:49, Des Morris from Tri-Lakeland was second and Robert Moffak from Howgill Harriers third. First woman was Rachel Kane, Carlisle Sheepmount in a time of 00:47:14, Suzanne Toppin was in second place with Linda Stamps third.
Winner of the 4Km Fun Run was Jodie Gillon, 12 yrs from Eden Runners in a time of 00:18:29. Other Eden runners took the next two places, Rebecca Stamper, 10 yrs, second with Daisy Gillon 10 yrs, third
