Hearts & Smiles Golf Day (20 June 2014)

Well the day for the Golf event finally arrived after months of planning and we could not have hoped for a better day. The weather was amazing, clear blue skies all day with a slight breeze to keep us all a little cool.

14 teams took part and 83 people attended the dinner. Of the 18 hole golf round 9 holes were dedicated to individual competition, 4 hole in ones, 4 nearest the pins and 1 longest drive. I have to report however that none of the hole in ones was achieved, shame but look out next year.

The evening meal, prize giving, and charity auction was a great success with over £3,000 being made on the night. The total raised to be split evenly between Smile4Wessex and Wessex Heartbeat was very close to £5,500 (final figure still being calculated).

There are many people to thank for the success of this event from players to sponsors and I have listed below the majority.

First of all Paul Wheatly who was my right hand man and had all the contacts and prior knowledge of an event like this.

Next Jaine Vermeulen (and all her team) from La Grand Mare, who's knowledge of golf tournaments is second to none and her advice and guidance was essential to the day.

The volunteers from my Club, Rotary Club of Guernsey, both on the course and setting up the media equipment.

Will we do it again, I really hope so, all the work has been done now and I hope we can make this an annual event.
