Old Creamery Site visit

Old Creamery site visit with Academy pupils

Visit to the Old Creamery Building Site

A most enjoyable visit to the old Creamery building site by ten Kirkcudbright Academy pupils took place in good weather early in the morning of Tuesday 17th December. They were warmly welcomed by John, their guide for the morning, who kitted them out in hard hats and hi-viz jackets and then proceeded to show them the various stages of construction in evidence at the site, from laying foundations to fitting solar panels. The boys found the tour very informative and certainly learned a few of the techniques and terminology of the builder's art. All the boys confirmed that they really enjoyed the visit with comments including:

"I never knew there was so much involved in building a house"

"Modern timbers can be treated so that they can be left out in all weathers for up to 39 days and not be affected"

"I learned the order in which houses are built and who does what"

"I learned about the various materials used for constructing a modern house and what they were used for"

"I never considered that things like traffic calming measures were built in right at the start".

The boys will pay a return visit when the building work is nearly finished so that they can get a much better idea of what a finished house will look like.
