5th Annual Christmas Story Competition
Wendover Junior Cof E School's Holly Taylor's story 'The Magic Advent Calendar' won first prize in Wendover Rotary's fifth annual Short Story competition run in conjunction with John Colet School. For the fifth year running, Wendover Rotary in conjunction with John Colet School, Wendover organized a Christmas Short Story competition and the prize-giving was held at.Weston Turville Combined School on 2nd February 2015
Year 6 pupils (age 10-11 yrs) from five local primary schools accepted an invitation to take part in the competition to write an original story with a Christmas theme. The rules were drawn up by John Colet students and Wendover Rotary. Some 200 entries were received and all the entries were read by judges from Wendover Rotary Club, the 2010 Book Club and friends. An initial shortlist of twenty stories were chosen, all of which were printed in a professionally produced and illustrated book sold at the prize giving to cover the cost of production.
The shortlist was then sent to a panel of student judges drawn from previous winners. All twenty authors on the list were awarded prizes of a certificate and dictionary, sponsored by Wendover Rotary, and the first three in each school an Amazon token sponsored by the Harpenden Building Society. The final three overall winners are awarded cups donated by local company Ilecsys.
Second Prize went to William Duling from Bishop Wood School for 'Frank's Diary'
Third Prize went to Evie Parr from Wendover School for 'How Rudolph got his Red Nose'
Prizes were presented by Rotarian David Johnson the competition organiser and we were pleased to welcome the support of Chalmers and Barbara Cursley.
