Since 2010, we have held an exhibition at the Youth Centre here in Newton Aycliffe. The proceeds are for SmileTrain, a charity specifically
dedicated to children in developing countries afflicted by facial deformities (www.smiletrain.org.uk)
The exhibition has grown from approximately 10 working layouts and 4 trade stands. In 2012 there were 11 working layouts, 6 trade stands and
3 preservation society stands. So too has the number of visitors, who come from far and wide. Some visitors were hardened enthusiasts, whilst
others merely rekindled childhood dreams. However you didnt have to be specifically interested in model railways to be amazed by the work
put into these lifelike models and appreciate how technology has moved on to create a miniature railway scene enhanced by sound and
automated systems far beyond our imagination.
There was a tombola, raffle and a railway quiz and as you can see from the pictures, we did provide limited catering facilities on site.
In 2013 we are holding an even bigger event with 17 layouts and 7 trade stands. Hopefully we will attract more visitors and together have a
wonderful day and help some of those boys and girls who are not so fortunate as our loved ones.
