Rotary twin clubs visit Abergavenny

Fri, Sep 27th 2013 at 12:00 am- Mon, Sep 30th 2013 - 12:00 am

Rotarians and partners from the Rotary Clubs of St Peray Tournon and Payerne La Broye visited Abergavenny for a weekend of fun and fellowship between the three clubs.

Our twenty four French and Swiss guests flew to Bristol Airport from Geneva and were met at the airport by three Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Abergavenny.  They were then taken by coach to Glangrwyney Court Hotel where most of the guests were staying for the weekend.  Those guests that were being "home hosted" were met there and taken to their hosts.

A welcoming reception was held at Glangrwyney Court on Friday evening followed by a dinner.

On Saturday morning, a coach collected guests from Glangwryney and took then to Cardiff Bay, where they had a guided tour of the Senedd, a film show about the history of Cardiff Bay in the Pierhead Building, a walk through the Millennium Centre and a visit to a craft shop.

After lunch at the Bayside Brasserie overlooking Cardiff Bay, our French and Swiss guests were taken to St Fagans Museum where they toured the outdoor exhibits and visited the castle.

In the evening, a Hog Roast was held in the barn at the home of David and Pip Hassall, during which our guests were entertained with a showing of the Rallyoke film (including out-takes).

On Sunday morning our guests visited Big Pit before being hosted for lunch and an informal afternoon at the homes of several Rotarians from our club.

A reception and official dinner meeting was held at The Angel hotel on Sunday evening.

Our guests were up early on Monday morning and collected by coach from Glangrwyney (at 6:30am!) for the return journey to Bristol Airport (accompanied by two Rotarians from our club) in time to catch their return flight to Geneva.
