Seagate Rotary had a relaxed and abbreviated Burns Supper on Monday evening in the Ship Inn. With many members sated with serious suppers, this was a welcome change and a gentle introduction to the concept for those visitors not familiar with the tradition.
Organised by Donald Menzies, the haggis was piped in by CD and addressed by Ian Dickson. There was a brief Immortal Memory by Hugh Hutchison, less than twenty minutes, and the evening was interspersed with gentle background music and conversation breaks. Ian Dickson presented the Irvine Burns Club video production on the life of Burns, a programme designed for P7 visitors to Wellwood and well suited to the audience, and there was further music and refreshment until President Fiona Lee proposed a final Vote of Thanks to the artistes and organisers.
