Know Your Blood Pressure 2013

Over 40% of strokes could be prevented if high blood pressure was controlled. The Know Your Blood Pressure day aims to tackle this statistic. The public were encouraged to come along on the day and have their blood pressure tested for free.

On the fantastically sunny morning of Saturday 20th April, we gathered at the Waitrose Store for a session of “Blood Pressure Testing”. We were very fortunate that, yet again, Juliet Shipton and Paula Carr were able to find time in their busy schedules to carry out the tests for us. There was no shortage of customers and, although various reasons were given by folk why they should not have a check, we were able to provide a steady flow of “willing participants” for the tests.

At the end of the three hour session, some 67 tests had been completed with about 30% being referred to their G.P. for further checks. Perhaps the high referral rate was influenced by the fact that they had just passed through the checkouts with well-loaded trolleys!

A special thanks to all the Members who helped with the event, to Chandra for the loan of the test equipment, and to Juliet and Paula for their testing and counselling.
