...with equities, fixed interest, property and cash giving the opportunity for diversification.

The position today is much more difficult, though there are opportunities for the professional such as hedge funds with their algorithms.

Today's private investor needs to identify an investment adviser who gives confidence and has a good track record, and who can work to meet the individual's risk profile.
