David Houghton, District Governor, District 1100.
David was born in Tetbury, Gloucestershire, where his father was the local pharmacist. From school he joined Lloyds Bank (now Lloyds TSB) in Cirencester where he met Val. Working for the same organisation for the next 33 years; his managerial career took him to London, Taunton, Bristol, Cardiff, Ross on Wye, Leominster and eventually Hereford. He now works part time at a local fruit farm, planning and presenting management training courses.
David & Val live in Brooms Green and have been married for 41 years. They have two children, Rebecca a paediatrician and Ben an Assistant Head Teacher, and six grandchildren.
David joined Ross on Wye Rotary Club in 1994 and has served in Leominster Club as well as his present Club Ledbury where he has been an active member for the past 12 years. He was club President in 2005.
He served as District Membership Development Chair for three years, as well as being a District Trainer, and Chief Steward at District Conference three years ago. A highlight of his District service was leading a GSE team to Brazil in 2009.
Wherever they have lived, Val and David have been actively involved in their local community. David is chair of trustees and an elder of his local Baptist Church, he is a keen golfer, still runs a little, enjoys gardening ,sailing, and being with the family.
With a passion for recruiting and retaining members, as well as wanting to highlight the good young people do, David is grateful for the full support of Val in putting Service above Self.
