Helen Young

Former Lead Presenter BBC Weather Centre
Helen Young was born in Crawley, Sussex and attended the Old Palace School in Croydon, where she is now a Governor. She has a BSc (Hons) in Geography from Bristol University, which explains her love of nature and her keenness to promote awareness of Climate Change and other environmental issues. She started her working life in the Met Office where she trained as a weather forecaster. Her first stint at TV presenting was for HTV where she stood in for the usual weather presenter. Helen then went on to appear as a regular weather presenter for BBC West, before being picked to join the team at the BBC Weather Centre as the youngest ever member in 1993.

In January 2000 she became the Broadcast Manager of the BBC Weather Centre, responsible for all the Broadcast Meteorologists at the BBC, Mike Fish and John Kettley included! In 2002 she became the Lead Presenter for the BBC Weather Centre and she held this position until leaving in 2005.
