Chalmers introduced his talk with some significant statistics concerning the growth of social media in the world.

 1  It took 50 years for radio to reach the entire population of this country.

 2  It took just 4 years for Facebook to reach 200 million subscribers.

 3  U Tube is now the 2nd largest search engine in the media system.

On Facebook there are 500 million active users, 50% of whom log in every day. 70% of users are outside the USA. 30% of users are 35+, and 74% of users are in the 18-24% age group.
