The Kop Hill Climb 2011

Members of Princes Risborough Rotary Club welcomed over 10,000 people to glorious sunshine at the fabulous Kop Hill Climb over the weekend of 24/25 September. Considered by many as 'better than Goodwood' and one of the best buzzes in motor sport, the Kop Hill Climb was first run in 1910 and became a major event in the motor sport calendar until a minor accident to a spectator forced the the RAC to abandon all motor sport on public roads in 1925. But things are different now. With the help of the British Motorsports Marshalls Club spectator safety is ensured and the fun has started again.

Revived in its present form in 2009 by the Risborough Area Community Action, this event has gone from strength to strength and affords a great value day out for all the family. A range of cars and motorcycles from 1901 to 2011, racing up one of the most celebrated Hill Climbs in the country, were joined by a variety of arena entertainments including the 1904 Electric Waverly, the 1910 steam cars, and Haurel and Lardy adding their own blend of motorised madcap fun. Risborough Rotarians supply most of the marshalls and raise substantial sums for charity. Among the distinguished celebrities were Chris Evans, Rod Stewart, JK and our very own DG Niall Blair in his unmissable Poliomobile!
