Speaker - Rtn Roger Birchenall - an experience of a hydro-electric contract in Nigeria

Roger stood in at short notice and gave an amusing talk on his first experience of an overseas contract, also at short notice.


 

He raised howls of laughter explaining the problems faced some 25 years
ago when he and a colleague undertook a surveying contract associated with a hydro-electric dam project in Jebba, Nigeria.
With only 5 days notice, a time scale which did not give the
necessary inoculations time to mature and no past experience of such
cultures, it gave rise to many potentially serious situations.  But they
completed the tasks and arrived home safely.
