The Josh Evans Trust Fund

Tracey thanked us for inviting her to speak about the beginning and development of the Charity in aid of children’s Diabetes. After raising money for the hospital where Tracey’s son, Josh, was treated, Tracey, her husband, their amazing families, and friends formed the ‘THE JOSH EVANS TRUST FUND’ to continue making a difference to local children with diabetes in Josh’s name. Josh had Type 1 diabetes from age 11 years. He enjoyed a full and happy life until it was cut short when he was involved in a fatal road accident in October 2008. He had suffered a hypoglycaemic attack whilst at the wheel of his car. There are 320 children in Somerset suffering from Diabetes at present. Few people are aware of so many cases.

The Trust Fund has made significant contributions towards the education and experience of children with diabetes for many years. Families are counselled as to the special diet and how to embrace family members in that regime. They take children on trips, have cook and eat sessions, enjoy all kinds of play sessions, Xmas parties, go sailing and skating, even staying for sleepovers with like -minded families.

The Charity assists with the cost of extra mobile phones which the children need for their own safety and the ability for parents to stay in touch via the App where children can be followed. The children are taught to recognise when their medicine is due. The Trust Fund purchase blood glucose monitoring equipment to be used. Diabetes is expensive. To date £130-160,000 were raised.

A sobering and thought- provoking evening. Our club donated £500 which was gratefully received.
