Rotary Serves Up a Smash Hit for HUG

The Rotary Club of Bexhill has brought a little extra bounce to local charity HUG — Bexhill & Rother Homeless Unity Group — by purchasing a table tennis table for guests to enjoy.

HUG provides a welcoming space where people are accepted as they are and supported with kindness, dignity and respect. Alongside practical and emotional support, the charity encourages each guest to work towards their own goals in a way that recognises everyone’s needs are different — because, as HUG makes clear, one size certainly does not fit all.

Rotary President Sue visited HUG on a very hot Saturday lunchtime, when volunteers were preparing to serve between 30 and 40 dinners to service users. While the new table tennis table was already in place and ready for action, the soaring temperatures meant it was more a day for keeping cool than smashing forehands.

But as soon as cooler days arrive, the table is set to become a popular addition — offering guests the chance to enjoy a friendly game, work up an appetite, and perhaps discover the next local ping-pong champion before dinner is served.
