A New Initiative

Peter and Stephen explained what a RotaKIds club was, and how it could integrate into the operation of the school.  They passed to Gareth examples of activities performed by the RotaKids clubs in Quilters and Buttsbury schools, and reports of these clubs’ activities as published in the Rotary Club of Billericay monthly Newsletter.

Various documentation such as the RotaKids Handbook, explanation of the Excellence Award and samples of the badges and RotaKids oath were also discussed.  Finally, the yearly schedule was discussed - election of members in September, projects during the year, taking part in the RotaKids Excellence Award process and finally, annual report to the Rotary Club of Billericay.

An Original Idea 

After a discussion of next steps, Gareth decided he wanted to go ahead with setting up a RotaKids club at the school, integrated with the school council as in Quilters and Buttsbury.  But there was one innovation, in a desire get matters moving as early as possible, Gareth asked if it was possible to elect the members of next year’s RotaKids in June/July this year from those pupils who will still be in school next school year.  We have not done this before, but it is an original idea which we are delighted to support.  In this way the club will have a very quick start next school year in September.

Peter Greene has ordered the RotaKids Members’ and Officers’ badges so we they will be available for the proposed July 3 investiture of the new RotaKids and start the process of “chartering” the RotaKids club.

Achieving above Local/National Levels

No sooner had the Stock date been agreed than we received another response to our enquiry from Brightside School, who say “I am interested in starting Rota Kids at our Primary School.  Would it be possible to meet so that I can find out some more information and how we can set it up?” 
A meeting was agreed for May 5!
