Bexhill Rotary Club enjoys bowls, banter and a Romanian feast on a memorable Tuesday evening.
Bexhill Rotary Club swapped meetings for mats and notebooks for woods on Tuesday 18 August, when members paid a sociable visit to Gullivers Bowls Club in Bexhill for a cheerful try-out session on the green.
With friendly encouragement from the bowls club hosts, Rotarians soon discovered that getting a bowl to glide gracefully towards the jack is not quite as easy as the experienced players make it look. There were plenty of near misses, a few surprise successes, and no shortage of laughter as members tried their hand at one of Bexhill’s much-loved community sports.
The visit proved to be a splendid mix of light-hearted competition and fellowship, giving everyone the chance to enjoy fresh air, learn something new, and appreciate the skill involved in a game that rewards patience, touch and just the right amount of confidence.
After the final woods had rolled, the evening continued at The Grill House, the Romanian restaurant on Marina Road in Bexhill, where members relaxed over a well-earned meal. The warm welcome, hearty dishes and lively conversation made it the perfect ending to an enjoyable Rotary outing.
President Sue thanked Gullivers Bowls Club for their hospitality and patience, saying how much members had enjoyed the chance to try bowls in such a friendly setting. She also thanked The Grill House team for rounding off the evening with excellent food and service, adding that events like this show the best of Rotary: friendship, community spirit and a willingness to have a go.
