Young Environmentalist

Are you passionate about the planet? Do you have what it takes to create ingenious ways to tackle environmental issues? Then take part in the District Rotary Young Environmentalist competition.


DISTRICT YOUNG ENVIRONMENTALIST COMPETITION

1) Open to all Primary and Secondary Schools in the District.

2) Four Prizes - Primary Individual and Primary Group; Secondary Individual and Secondary Group. A group can be a whole class or smaller.

3) Entries must be made through Clubs and then from Clubs to the District Lead.

4) The theme for the competition is “LOVING MY PATCH”

5) “My Patch” can be any area - a school, a home, a garden, a park, a Landmark, a wood, a pond etc.

6) Closing date for applications is 31st March. The projects will take place during the summer term and the closing date is Friday 19th June. Judging will take place the following week and Prizes awarded before the end of the Summer Term.

7) There is no charge for entry but Clubs may, if they wish, support the competition financially.

8) We are looking for creativity, originality, “out of the box” thinking.

9) Entries will need to be submitted electronically by photo, video, documents etc.

10) Some ideas are - be practical eg planting useful plants, clearing land, removing waste, rewilding an area, providing new habitat etc; be creative eg using Art to record your project, creating a mural with collected items from the patch, creating and mounting an exhibition to highlight the patch, using Music, Poetry, Prose, Drama etc.; build eg make an nature friendly hame for bugs, birds, bats etc, a feeding station, compost and/or recycling areas. I’m sure schools can come up with many ideas but encourage them to contact me for more ideas.

11) Entry Forms will be available from me at pallonby@hotmail.com and must be used. Rules and Regs will be attached to the entry forms.
