Rotary International District 1285 Disabled Sports Day 2015

With the day dedicated to Disabled people in sport and physical activity, our Rotary Vision that Disabled people are active for life, had an early start.  With support from a wide range of organisations, along with our own Rotarian volunteers, we had a fabulous day. Fierce competition and sportsmanship, in a friendly atmosphere, guaranteed a wonderful display of sport and a fine example of Rotary in Action.

Our District St Helens games is a First base for talent. It provides a platform to develop and support talented disabled athletes, and aims to provide a pathway to take disabled athletes possibly through to high level competition standards.

Two hundred and twenty participants from our new Rotary District 1285, entered our Disability Sports day, with a lot of parents, carers, Inner Wheel and Rotary volunteers ensuring that the day was rewarding and enjoyable. 
Again, this year’s event took place in the Sutton Leisure Centre St Helens. The Centre has fantastic facilities, and now enjoys an elevated status as part of the Academy Partnership.

A great effort was put in by our volunteer Rotarians, and this has been much appreciated by our District 1285 Disabled Sports Committee, participants, and on their behalf can I express their thanks for their involvement.

The day drew to a conclusion about 4.pm with a presentation ceremony, District Governor Nigel Danby and Gill presented medals and certificates to all the winning entrants, leaving competitors and Rotarians with an elated yet with a tired feeling. A great day of fun, fellowship and service! 
Well done to all the Clubs' involved for creating an event that brings so much joy and achievement to so many people.

The whole event is a lot of hard work but very rewarding and I know that all the committee and Rotary volunteers are looking forward to organising and running the event next year on 3rd September 2016
