RYLA

this years RYLA course will be held from 3rd to 7th Aug 2026 at the Anderton centre

This year we will be holding a Rotary Young Leaders Award course (R.Y.L.A.) at The Anderton Centre. Rivington, Chorley, PR6 9HG. 01257 484220

Dates Monday 3rd August to Friday 7th August 2026.

The cost per candidate will be £400. This will include accomodation, food, instruction, all equipment and safety gear required to participate in the activities.

The purpose of holding a R.Y.L.A. course is to create an opportunity for developing our brightest and best young people. To stretch them and often to introduce them to new experiences.

You can find the Anderton Centre by using a Google search and see the facilities it has to offer. Our District used it last year to hold the International Summer Camp so as an organisation we have tested it and found it fit for purpose.
I have personally visited the centre three times to discuss course content, discuss instructor ratios and examine the facilities. I am confident that they can deliver the type of course content we desire safely and professionally.

The course will consist of outdoor activities, climbing, kayaking, sailing and suchlike. There will be problem solving and team building exercises appropriate to the ages of the candidates.

I will be attending at some point to give a presentation about Rotary and explain what our values and aims are.

There will be a rotarian on site overnight each day as a point of contact.

All of there safeguarding policies etc. can be obtained by ringing the centre directly 01257484220.

The candidates we recommend to be aged between 14 to 17 years of age as we anticipate this age bracket will bond together better. My own club Irlam will be funding two candidates for this years course. We will approach our contacts at the local academy and provide them with the information about the course. They know their students and we expect them to provide us with a number of students for us to interview and select our pair to go on the course.

This is NOT a course to try to help and rectify students who have issues. They will be challenged and probably pushed to try things that they might not instantly be comfortable with. They will need a degree of resiliance. It is in no ones interest to fund a candidate who will not have a happy, safe time on the course.

Ensure that the candidate CAN actually attend on the course on the given dates. Experience has proven that teenagers don`t always know the dates of their families holidays or if they will have to be caring for siblings.

Once the candidate is selected make the appropriate payment (£400)  to the district treasurer who will pay the final invoice from the Anderton Centre.

I will send out a contact sheet and a kit list on reciept of the completed application form.
