This competition is different from the traditional Young Speaks competition is open to Middle and Scondary Schools from anywhere in the UK and gives young people the opportunity to show their public speaking and debating skills in a high pressure environement in front of a live audience and a panel of expert judges
The format of the competition will be a team of 3, one will have the role of Chairperson and the other 2 will be the debators. The teams can choose any topic they feel very strongly about. This will give them the opportunity to undertake detailed research into the topic, formulate ideas and present them in a clear and confident manner. One person will speak in favour of the motion and the other in opposition. The team has 15 minutes to make their presentation. In addition, at the end of the presentation a selected member of the audience called the Questioner will ask a member of the team a question related to their topic.
The competition is open to schools in 2 categories and a school can enter teams in both categories if they wish
Intermediate 11- 13 years
Senior 14 - 17 years
The competition starts at the local level with local club heats then the winners entries move on the the District Finals and then the the Regional and National Finals.
