Have you old tools you nolonger need?  Chelwood Bridge Rotary have chosen the “Tools For Self Reliance Cymru” (TFSR) Charity as one of its International projects. This charity aims to improve the lives of African artisans & families by providing them with quality refurbished recycled tools and training. The charity collects old and unused hand tools and sewing machines from all over the UK and sends them to grass roots community groups in Africa. They presently concentrate their efforts in Tanzania. This is a great opportunity for you to recycle those unwanted tools that are taking up space in your garage and put them into the hands of people who will once again put them to use and by doing so help change lives.

A collection of Tools etc will take place at Farrington Gurney Social Club, (Church Lane, Farrington Gurney, BS39) on Saturday the 18th of May between 11:30 and 14:00

All tools are welcome, particularly the following:  Sewing machines, preferably older solid machines like the black Singers, Industrial sewing machines, Overlockers, anvils, leather working tools, good quality planes, vices, chisels and metric spanners. Also electrical tools and meters. Any tools made of brass or brass items, as they sell well in the UK at events and help fund the cost of sending the other tools. Copper and brass scrap is also valuable, including electric motors. Electric tools can be useful, but preferably the better makes, not the cheap DIY ranges which do not last in a busy workshop

TOOLS FOR SELF RELIANCE CYMRU collect old and unwanted hand tools and sewing machines. They send them in 20ft shipping containers at least once a year to their workshop in Kalwande, Tanzania (up in the Lake Zone) where they are refurbished, ready to send to grass roots community groups where they will find a whole new way to improve livelihoods. They presently concentrate their efforts in Tanzania where they work with their new partner: Kalwande Vocational Training Centre. Together they work towards a more equitable sharing of the world’s resources.

Chelwood Bridge Rotary Club have decided to support this worthwhile charity and will very shortly be collecting tools donated by club members  individuals and  organisations in our area for transportation to the workshop of TOOLS FOR SELF RELIANCE CYMRU,  who although very successful at collecting  still have a shortage of certain items, especially tools for blacksmiths.

In the past 35 years they have sent more than a million tools including over a thousand sewing machines to craftsmen and women in rural communities of Africa. Tools mean work, and the chance to shape their future. Join them in any way you
