Rotarians of tomorrow

Rotakids Groups are often based in junior schools and are a great way for the youngsters to make friends, become involved in projects and fundraising in their local communities whilst learning about citizenship.  The different Rotakids groups decide upon their own activities, whilst having fun, and are supported by their teachers and a local Rotary club.   There are Rotakids groups in several areas of Cumbria & Lancashire.  Once you have read through this page visit our other Rotakids page to learn about more Rotakids Groups in Cumbria & Lancashire.

Church and Oswaldtwistle Rotary Club support four Rotakids groups who are very much into partnership working.

In conjunction with Community Rail, St Andrew’s Primary School Rotakids have been working on an artwork project along the Hyndburn Greenway from Oswaldtwistle to Accrington.  The artist Gosha was able to create some amazing artworks that are now on display on the Railway Station at Oswaldtwistle.  Read their press release here.

Rotary have been able to fund 15 new Chromebooks for St Andrews, as they highlighted a need to have one device for each child to enable them to take full advantage of online Maths and English resources.

White Ash Special School Rotakids  went Pumpkin picking at Thornton Hall Farm in October, and had a great day out.   They are also taking part in a new Artwork project in conjunction with Community Rail on the Hyndburn Greenway, with artist Gosha.  This project is in it’s early days.

In June, White Ash will be having a Rotakids Fun Day in school, which will enable all 116 pupils to take part.  They will be taking part in a  Circus Skills workshop, with Bubble Man.

In conjunction with The River Ribble Trust, Rotary have been able to fund a Trout Tank each year that rotates around different schools and is currently with Hippings Methodist Primary School Rotakids.  Hippings have had the tank in Class 5 since December, when the troutlings were introduced.  They have been watching them grow and learning about the lifespan of trout, thanks to workshops delivered by RRT. The troutlings will be released into a local stream, when the children will take part in a river survey session. Click here for an update on the release of the troutlings.

In March, in conjunction with Community Rail, Class 5 will be going to the archives at County Hall Preston to enhance their learning on the Accrington Pals.  They will end the trip with a tour of Preston station.

Finally the Rotary Clubs fourth Rotakids group at St Paul’s CE Primary School are also working in conjunction with Community Rail in April when Class 5 at St Pauls will be going to the archives at County Hall Preston, to be the first school to take part in a new initiative called ‘Steam to Green’ celebrating 200 years of passenger transport.

On 4th June, St Pauls are having a Rotakids Fun Day Out, and will be going to Manchester to visit the Football Museum followed by a visit to Pizza Express.

If there isn't a group in your area why not ask your local Rotary Club to help you start one.
