How about making an item for a teenagers room
using as much recycled material as possible

This competition is for the Design and Technology subjects taught in schools at KS3 and should not therefore be aimed at Art/Textiles departments.

The aim is to :

  • Encourage students to enjoy designing and making items using textile materials.
  • Improve their designing and making skills and their confidence when using machinery.
  • Encourage more students to choose textiles as an exam subject at Key Stage 4[ GCSE] and even A level where possible.
  • Encourage schools to continue teaching Textile Technology at all levels.

The Brief is to design and make a useful item for a teenager’s room, using as much recycled material as possible, based on this year’s Theme, Wonderful Water.

The finished item must show design flair, skill in the construction, be appealing to the eye and cost no more than £15.  The finished article must be accompanied by a small portfolio of no more than 4 sheets of A4, showing design ideas, development, final design and costing, plus photographs of the finished article.

The competition is open to students in full time education who are in KS3 -Years 8 or 9 during the academic year 2024-25.

The Competition will be in two stages:

  1. Local Heats that are organised by local Rotary Clubs with their schools.  This section of the competition is to be completed by Friday May 23rd 2025 [Half term].
One winner from each school will then be entered into the District Final.
  2. The District Final will be held on June 17th 2025 at Lakes School, Windermere after school.

Awards are made at both Club and District Levels.
