Rotarians in Cumbria & Lancashire value the interaction with young people and there are many opportunities within Rotary Youth Services. Young people are enabled to participate individually or with their school or club friends as they progress to being confident young adults.
Rotarians, Young People and their Supporters can find details of the various offers on the adjoining pages (to the right or below this page). Where the support of a club is required, go to Rotary clubs to contact your nearest one or you can contact Anthony Chick, our Rotary Youth Leader in Cumbria & Lancashire, by using the Contact Form below.
Joining in the competitions can take young people on an amazing journey through the North of England finals, onward to national finals. Not only is this an excellent experience it can reap exciting rewards. Examples are the national winner of Rotary Young Photographer has a day with a Royal photographer and the the winner of Rotary Young Chef has the opportunity to work in an Italian restaurant in Italy.
Young people can also participate in Rotakids, Interact, RYPEN (Rotary Youth Programme of Enrichment ) and/or RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) that enables them to build confidence, provide new skills and be an excellent addition to a portfolio.
Rotakids : For 8 to 11 year olds. The purpose is to help build children's self esteem and community service ethics by introducing Rotary concepts of service, understanding and citizenship. Children also have an introduction to project, team and leadership skills. Parents will be encouraged to take part too. Often school based but not always.
Interact : Rotary Youth Clubs for 12-18 year olds and can be either school or community based. It will be self-governing and self-supporting but will have a sponsoring Rotary Club with an enthusiastic Rotarian acting as a link. Interact can provide fun, fellowship, opportunities to develop life skills and meeting new people! They will also spend time undertaking projects and fund raising.
RYLA : Rotary Youth Leadership Award events are for young people aged 16 to 17 years, who are about to start their working lives or to enter higher education, and who have shown leadership potential and are likely, as adults, to become future leaders. Students are put into mixed groups of complementary ability where they take part in outdoor activities. They are placed in challenging situations to help develop leadership and team bonding skills and to increase personal confidence.
RYPEN : Rotary Youth Programme of Enrichment. The course is highly motivational and based upon adventurous activities and team-building exercises. It is specifically designed to develop self-belief and confidence. Typical activities involve conservation exercises, hiking, canoeing, climbing and a two-day self-supported expedition usually on the Lakeland Fells.
Rotarians also support young people to read, participate in forest schools, provide opportunities for green projects and help with donations and Christmas parcels through our many Rotary Clubs.
