Happy Birthday Rotary! FTF meeting with several speakers.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROTARY!!!!!!

Rotary and its members have a long history of promoting peace and working to address the underlying causes of conflict in communities around the world. Delegates at the 1914 Rotary Convention which took place just weeks before Europe became engulfed in war agreed that the International Association of Rotary Clubs (now Rotary International) would “lend its influence to the maintenance of peace among the nations of the world.”

It was a bold statement for a relatively young organization that had become international only two years earlier and had a presence in just a handful of countries.

For Rotarians, February is Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention Month and also the month when we celebrate Rotary’s birthday. Rotarians and friends are invited to join our meeting on 23 February which will celebrate nearly 100 years of Hounslow Rotary’s commitment to peacebuilding in our local community and our support of local peacebuilding initiatives. The London Borough of Hounslow has a very diverse community and many international connections including twinning with Issy-les-Moulineaux (France), Ramallah (Palestine), Lahore (Pakistan), and Jalandhar (India)

Speakers will include:

Rtn Peter King MPHF, (Past President of Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland)

Representatives from HAFSA (Hanwell Friends of Sabastiya).

Time:

6pm (for 6.15pm) to 8.15 pm

Some Rotarians and friends will be aware that the date falls within the holy months of Ramadan and of Lent. Our club is NOT a dining club, but some visitors may like to stay on after the meeting to explore the menu of the Indian Gymkhana Club’s excellent restaurant.
