Early in November 2022, at one of their regular Zoom meetings the Rotary GB&I Ukraine Taskforce and the Ukraine District Governor’s team talked about what Rotarians in Rotary GB&I could do next to help the people of Ukraine. One of the suggestions was to source warm winter clothing as supplies are non-existent in Ukraine.
At a meeting of clubs from our District this suggestion was put to clubs - for a time-limited project running until the end of the month. The response from clubs, and the public, has been overwhelming and on Friday 16 December the first of two 40 tonne articulated lorries was loaded to drive across Europe to Ukraine. The courier is a Polish company who takes the donations to the border close to Lviv where Ukrainian Rotarians collect the donations and organise the distribution within Ukraine.
The photos above give an idea of the quantities and effort involved, and the appreciation of the donations when they reached Ukraine. The video below shows the full story from collection to delivery.
