Rules for all Sports

Brief Rules for all the games and sports other than dominoes

Rotary District 1145 Sports Competitions – Rules

Please note that these rules are set out for guidance only – participating entrants/teams may agree to vary by
mutual consent. It is traditional for the home team to arrange a suitable venue for each match. But where the distances are large, please try and find a venue halfway. It is also traditional for the home team to provide a few snacks if possible.

1. Badminton
Teams of TWO, BOTH of whom should be Rotary members
Doubles Match: Best of three games – first to 21 points wins each game, but must win by at least two clear points

Alternative if time:

Two singles matches: So each player on one team plays a match of three games against both of the opposing players individually.

The Singles matches have been added because some players felt they were travelling so far for a very short match. Please agree at the beginning of the match whether you are going to play the Singles as well as the Doubles.

2. Bridge
Teams of TWO, BOTH of whom should be Rotary members
Chicago Bridge scoring, with 12 boards in the early rounds, 16 boards in the semi-final, 20 boards in the Final.

3. Cribbage
Teams of TWO, BOTH of whom should be Rotary members
Best of three games – first to 121 points wins each game

4. Darts
Teams of FOUR, at least THREE of whom should be Rotary members
Best of five games – 501, straight in, double out

5. Dominoes
Teams of TWO, BOTH of whom must be Rotary members
‘All Fives’ (rules enclosed) – best of three games – first to 61 points wins each game

6. Pool
Teams of TWO, BOTH of whom should be Rotary members
Best of five frames

7. Quiz
Teams of FOUR, at least THREE of whom should be Rotary members
Home team to arrange Quiztioneer
Ten rounds of ten questions each – questions kindly written by Simon Edmands

8. Skittles
Teams of SIX to TEN players, at least HALF of whom MUST be Rotary members
Team with highest aggregate score after THIRTY GOES – in the event of a tie, the team containing the player with the highest individual aggregate score wins.

Skittles works best with TEN players in each team, but if you cannot find ten players, play with less and rotate through your group until you have completed THIRTY GOES. The next player due to play starts the next round – you do not restart if you have an odd number.

We suggest each team pays half the costs of hiring the skittle alley regardless of how many players they field.

9. Snooker Singles
Open to individual Rotary members only
Best of three frames

10. Snooker Pairs
Teams of TWO, BOTH of whom should be Rotary members
Best of three frames

11. Table Tennis

Teams of TWO, BOTH of whom should be Rotary members
Two doubles matches of three games to 21 points with two clear points.(In doubles, The serve alternates every two points, but also the play alternates between the players within a team during a point)

Plus:

Two singles matches of three games, each to 21 points with two clear points, so each player plays both of the opposite team members.

Highest aggregate number of games is the winner. In the event of a tie, play one more doubles match of three games (or one game if desperately short of time) as a decider.

If time is of the essence, set a time limit at the beginning and if this is likely to be too much, agree a different version at a fair stage.

12. Ten-Pin Bowling

Teams of FOUR, at least THREE of whom should be Rotary members
Team with highest aggregate score over two games wins – in the event of a tie, the team containing

the player with the highest individual aggregate score wins

If you would like to join in any of these sports, please mention it to your club sports officer.  You can email sports@rotarysouth.org for more information.
