Since 2020 we have collaborated with Stitches in Cheam, a registered Morsbags Pod and with the help of volunteers we have, using recycled fabric, produced fabric bags which are being distributed free of charge to shops and groups to replace single-use plastics.
In September 2021 we celebrated the launch of a second Morsbags Pod in our area. Craft My Day in Worcester Park is a registered Pod and they are having weekly social meetings where volunteers are getting together and making Morsbags together, Then the bags are being distributed by Mia Strada boutique and by Ross Greengrocers to shoppers. No more single-use plastics when Morsbags are here!
We aim to spread the word about Morsbags and support any group who may wish to join Morsbags volunteers and set up their own Pod.
In July 2021 a group of Rotarians and Friends clear rubbish from woodland in Godalming. This area has been blighted by the indiscriminate dropping of drinks containers, plastic wrappers and waste food items, as well as a number of larger plastic and metal items. In 90 minutes the group collected 44 kg of rubbish and identified other rubbish that requires the attention of the local council.
This litter pick was just one of the projects being implemented by the new group, Rotarians Supporting the Environment in Godalming and it forms the first stage of a project to rejuvenate this potentially beautiful area of woodland. If you are interested in helping in future litter picks or finding out more about our environmental projects visit our website for more information.
