Donation towards the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre Oxford

The presentation was for the £1,000 donated by the Thame Rotary towards the Children's ward of the hospital

During his year as President of the Thame Rotary Club, Keith Tattersfield's little granddaughter Mabel was admitted to the Children's Ward of the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre for surgery to correct a congenitally dislocated hip. The operation went well, but she became seriously ill because of complications in the healing process. Thanks to the skill and dedication of the nursing staff she made a full recovery.

As he was aware that the whole building and equipping of the children's section of the hospital was financed from voluntary donations, Keith recommended to the Club that it made a donation of £1,000 towards the £70,000 needed to provide two children's outside courtyard gardens and play areas that will be covered with a special coloured rubber flooring that will always stay dry and safe. This was agreed unanimously.

The donation was gratefully received by Mrs. Jeanette Franklin MBE, who is the Appeal Director, who entertained Keith and his party to a tour of the Children's Ward while describing the state of the art equipment that had been installed. This was followed by an excellent lunch.

The photograph shows Mabel starting the construction work with her special little spade, together with her  mother Lucy, grandfather Keith and some of the staff of the Children's Ward.
