Sand dams are the cheapest method of rainwater harvesting in drylands. They provide communities with a clean, local and reliable source of water – even during periods of drought.
Sand dams store up to 40 million litres of water and provide a year-round supply for up to 1,000 people – with virtually zero operation and maintenance costs. By storing water safely within sand, sand dams protect it from contamination, evaporation and parasites – cleaner water that lasts longer.

Interest in further partnerships to develop Sand Dams in Kenya and elsewhere has grown considerably among our Rotary clubs. Bruce Irvine, District 'Sand Dams Champion'gave a very moving presentation at District Conference 2018 at Cheltenham and will be pleased to visit your club to speak about this fascinating way of providing clean water in partnership with local communities through Excellent Development and significantly improving local economies and people's lives.
