Having fun, meeting friends along the way while raising funds and awareness for WheelPower's Rotary Wheel Appeal!
The Aims:
- To celebrate the Olympic & Paralympic Games
- To fundraise for WheelPower leaving a lasting Sporting Legacy through the purchase of manual sports wheelchairs for young disabled people in the Thames Valley area
- To promote fellowship between Clubs
- To show that Rotary is a great place to be for 'Making a Real Difference'
'Opening Ceremony' Monday 8 April at Stoke Mandeville Stadium
A wide variety of transport arrived at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, the home of the Paralympic Movement, as over 80 Rotary club representatives met to hear the finer details of what was planned. Kindly hosted by the Wheel Power Team, Rotarians and friends were taken on a tour of the superb facilities and shown examples of the sports wheel chairs. At dinner, the tables were a buzz of excited conversation! Inspired by the Wheel Power Team and guest speaker, Mike Mackenzie with his tales of the original Around the World in 80 Ways, lead clubs for each area were soon found. With logistics and H&S sorted, they collected their relay 'batons' and the show was on the road!
