The two Guernsey Rotary Clubs were delighted to announce at the
recent presentation evening at Government House that the Saffery Rotary Walk raised an incredible £86,500 this year, an amazing
total for a one day event in the island. This was distributed to 25
local community projects and charities at the award evening.
The walk
had an exceptional year with 995 walkers, including 35 relay teams,
taking part. The Lieutenant Governor Sir Ian Corder, the walk's Patron
and host for the evening (who has completed the 39 mile walk every year
since his appointment) congratulated everyone involved in the walk on
this years achievement and wished the walk continuing success in the
future.
The presentations were not just about cash, but with
individual awards for Youngest, Oldest walker, most cash raised by a
team and Individual and the Endeavour award for someone going the "extra
mile" for the event. A special award was also given to a relay team who
walked in memory of a long standing supporter of the walk "Mark
Fallaize" who sadly passed away last year. The award was accepted by
Marks wife Julie.
The date of next years walk was also announced during the evening, which is Saturday 6th June 2020.
