The Hearts and Smiles Golf Day raising funds for Smile4Wessex and Wessex
Heartbeat reached its 4th anniversary this year. At the time of writing this
report it looks as though we have raised over £6,000 this year giving a total of
over £28,000 over 4 years, split evenly between the two charities.
This years event was held in glorious sunshine at La Grande Mare Golf course
with 12 team taking part and over 70 people attending the dinner.
We had a surprise guest at the dinner, with ex Ryder cup player Steve
Richardson popping in and presenting a signed shirt and cap for our auction
(Steve tied for 5th in the USPGA Championship, and finished second on the
Order of Merit to Seve Ballesteros).
Unfortunately our Rotary team did not pick up the star prize, but put up a
really good showing. We were also very pleased to have the Guernsey Ladies team
taking part as final practice before they leave for the Island Games.
Invited guests for the evening were Jaine Vermeulen (La Grande Mare), John Dent
(La Grande Mare professional), Neil Westbrook (Smile4Wessex), and John Monroe
(Wessex Heartbeat).
Huge thanks to Neil and John for their work on the night and of course my right hand man and lady Paul Wheatley and Jocelyn.
