Haworth and Worth Valley Rotary team packing the last of their humanitarian aid donations for onward shipment to Ukraine

The Rotary Club of Haworth & Worth Valley have despatched half a ton’s worth of aid to the embattled citizens of Ukraine following their successful collection day in Haworth on Saturday, September 7th.

The Rotarians had previously sent a shipment of mother and baby goods over to help families in war-torn Ukraine in 2022.

During the last month, the Rotarians had staged a new appeal to the Worth Valley communities for warm clothes, household goods and other needed equipment in order to make a new aid shipment.

And they received yet another amazing response from the community when they brought everything together at their collection point at Haworth Masonic Hall last Saturday.

One of the club’s Past Presidents Gary Gardner, who led the campaign, said: “We’d like to thank the Lodge of the Three Graces for allowing us to use their building on Mill Hey as a collection point. It was a fantastic gesture by them.

“Donations even rolled in after we’d finished collecting on Saturday so have gathered the equivalent of 70 bin bags full for shipping to Ukraine and, since then, another eight have arrived together with car-boot load of donations from the Rotary Club of Bradford.

“Our own club members have donated as has another charitable organisation who have previously made donations of clothing to us. It’s simply amazing.”

On the collection day there were approximately 24 deliveries of donations by individuals and they, together with all the other donations, have enabled the Rotarians to send this second significant amount of aid to the Ukrainians as they prepare for the onset of winter.

The donations the Rotations received were collected by Tim Marsden of Huddersfield to Ukraine Humanitarian Aid and they now scheduled for onward transport to Ukraine.
