Our District Young Writer was a competition we were able to run this year as it is communicated via word documents, scanned copies and email. Not surprisingly there were fewer entries this year, but many thanks to those clubs who made the effort to engage local schools.
The panel of judges included 2 Rotarians who have judged for the past few years, 2 people from a writing group I used to belong to and have nothing to do with Rotary apart from judging the competition, and myself.
The theme this year was “My Happiest Day” and the 3 winners, whose entries have now been forwarded to RGBI for the national final in the summer are:
Junior – Anna Screeton
Sponsored by Rotary Club of Pickering and District
Intermediate – Ben Medd
Sponsored by Rotary Club of Pickering and District
Senior - Border Hamish Wills
Sponsored by Rotary Club of Skipton
I am sure we all wish them the best of luck in the final. I have volunteered to run it for another year. I do not know what the theme will be yet, but the timing will be the same. Club winners to me by end of January 2022.
