The Rotary Club of Howden
My father is a longstanding member of this club and over the years, through him, I have been aware of the work of Rotary Clubs and, within the Howden Club, of their constant fundraising and giving within the local community and wider East Riding. They annually organise a fund-raising golf day and dinner and a cycle ride known as the ‘Tour de Laxton’, as well as raffles and Christmas Carol Concerts. The Rotarian’s motto worldwide is ‘Service AboveSelf’, a useful message upon which wider society might reflect. Well done to all the Howden. Rotarians and thank you.
The Moorlands Community Charity
Situated in Old Goole, Moorlands provide a very wide range of services to mothers, babies and young children through to others in their nineties. From youth support to meals on wheels for the elderly. The area suffers from deprivation and unemployment. The team at Moorlands, led by Jacky Crawford, have big plans to transform the area for the benefit of local people and there is a feeling that things are beginning to happen. Moorlands are also leading on plans to open an amateur boxing club in the town. The work at Moorlands is a lifeline to some. Well done to all at Moorlands and thank you.
The Wombles of Beverley
I was riding my bike one Sunday night over Beverley Westwood and noticed two people picking up litter, so I stopped and congratulated them. They told me about this and another group that regularly go out in Beverley and our local villages to clear the streets of litter. Again, a group quietly getting on with it. Every one of them a volunteer who cares about their town or village. That community spirit is special and deserves to be recognised as an example to us all. Well done to all The Wombles and thank you.
Congratulations to all my award recipients. Please keep up the great work you are doing.
It really does make a difference.
