Purple ’N’ Shave for Polio

At the last District Council meeting when PDG Manoj announced that he would be shaving his beard to raise funds for the Polio eradication campaign several of the Halifax club members (and a few others) challenged PDG Ken Robertshaw to have his shorn as well.  As Ken’s beard was a pure white ’Santa Claus’ lookalike he was also challenged to have it dyed purple.

Not one to shrink from a challenge Ken accepted and within a few hours he was joined by Rtn Ramesh Mistry who actually sported a bigger, and darker, beard and a full head of hair.  So they arranged to have their locks dyed purple by Jay Byrne salon in Halifax and arrangements were made for him to shave them both on the End Polio Now stand in the Piece Hall, Halifax on World Polio Day.

And so, on a cold, wet and windy afternoon Ken and Ramesh duly had their hair and beards removed in full public gaze!

They had set a target of £1000 for their challenge and at the end of October had surpassed that by a great margin with fund raising standing at £3100 so far.

They have a fund raising page that can be accessed via https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/purpleNshave and there is a video of the event that can be seen at https://vimeo.com/471926857
