Crocus Planting at Askrigg Primary School

Pupils planted crocuses as part of the nation wide Rotary "Focus on the Crocus" initiative.

Rotary International has been at the forefront of the effort to eradicate Polio from the world. The purple crocuses symbolise the "purple pinkies" - little fingers stained purple after children have been immunised against polio. Rotary clubs throughout the UK are arranging plantings partly to raise awareness of this important project, and partly to raise fund towards the final stages of eradication.
