President's Poetic Perspective

Graham's year in verse - July

Where is everyone?
Where is everyone?

Bradford West Rotary, visit Oakworth Station......

The afternoon tea on a train
Took a slight little toll on my brain.
For there's various Stations
That will foster relations
When your memory goes down the drain.

Now the Keighley Worth Valley is known
For that film, with the children, when shown.
With the nice station master
Who helped divert disaster
And they're there, to help, when your minds flown.

So, two stations start with an "O"
And to tell them apart, you should know.
Oakworth and Oxenhope,
Then there's the silly dope,
Who parked at the wrong one and so.

But the Guard advised him what to do.
And soon he was with his club crew.
Well, nobody laughed
They were all quite aghast
And the President,  he just went "PHEW"

What a marvellous trip on the train,
Going up and down and back again.
The afternoon teas,
Well, just the bees knees,
Just the sunshine with no hint of rain.

The guard,  well we saw him each time
We went back and forth on the line.
To not do that again
May be classed as insane
Like the person composing this rhyme.

All aboard for when the next one is arranged, for you sure don't want to miss it.
P.s. make sure you go to the correct station to start with.

16th July 2026

I thought about an ode,
As I sat, in my abode,
And take a little peek
Of what happened in the week.
The Tennis and the football
Were fine, until we lost.
We rarely get a win call,
As our hopes, somewhat are tossed.
But it never slows our pace
From pursuing things again
And a marvellous Bradford Showcase
With the speakers advice, then.
An all you can eat buffet,
Was the food on offer after
And a fair few folk were stuffé
As the dishes reached the rafter.
We went to help and walk and play
At Hesketh, at the farm.
It was Rotary Children's Fun Day
It was great, not cool, not warm.
So "we can do" is the motto,
If we put our minds together.
It is good, its never grotto,
Unless referring to our weather.

2nd July 2026 Bradford West Rotary Club, Presidential Inauguration.

I'm writing this as President
Of Bradford West Ro ta ree,
A task, to be our resident,
Poet Laureate no ta ree.
My office,  now in being
I did it after lunch
And endeavours overseeing,
We're a happy friendly bunch.
I'm sure I will get better,
With etiquette and such.
And follow to the letter,
When "Sec. Brian" gets in touch.
So here we are, I've started,
Some say "Just like the flu"
Please don't be broken hearted,
You may like what I do.

Hoping to have an eventful, enjoyable, interesting and fruitful year.
All the very best,
Graham.
