Dear Fellow Rotarians,
I have enjoyed meeting many of you over the last few weeks. It was good to be able to attend the Rotary Club of Elgin’s Tea in a Tent coffee morning last Saturday, with £685 raised: this is, effectively, enough to provide a full family with all their shelter needs, including a tent. A superb effort and great fun.
I also had the huge privilege of attending a humanitarian reception, as a representative of ShelterBox and Rotary, at Buckingham Palace in recognition of the work of ShelterBox over the last 25 years; indeed Her Majesty the Queen is the Patron of ShelterBox. I very much valued meeting so many good people at the event, and having the opportunity to talk about our roles in support of ShelterBox, as well as discovering the work of other humanitarian charities. That so many people were gathered together because of the humanitarian work to which they contribute was a wonderful counter to the selfish pronouncements from certain quarters, and the many tragedies the world is experiencing. For these contributions then to be so visibly praised, appreciated and endorsed by so many members of the Royal family was touching and uplifting. Such a remarkable day: I was so grateful for the opportunity to attend.
The remarkable work accomplished by Rotarians in the year just past is now on display in a video and in the Annual Impact Report for 2024. Click the highlighted links and I hope that you and your members will have an opportunity to look through them.
Please do let me know if I can help with any of your fundraising initiatives in aid of ShelterBox. In the meantime my thanks for all your good work, along with my warm wishes.
Yours in Rotary and as ever,
P.
