Rotary Young Chef - District Final results - Graham Leith update, February 2025
Mearns Academy (Laurencekirk) student Rose Greengrass continued her success in the 2024/25 Rotary Young Chef competition by winning the North Scotland District Final on 1st Feb at the Fife College Levenmouth Campus in Methil. Competing against 8 other young Chefs representing Rotary clubs from across the district Rose repeated her winning menu from the club round - Pan fried duck with lentil ragu, Kale and Celeriac and Lemon meringue pie for dessert.
Rose came first against very tough competition. 2nd and 3rd places also went to South Aberdeenshire contestants, with 2nd place going to Ben Malcolm representing Stonehaven Rotary and 3rd place to Eve Hardie representing Portlethen and District Rotary.
Trophies were presented to the top three by District Governor Elect Graham Leith, with all competitors being given a certificate and a Gordon Ramsay Cookbook.
The standard of cooking was extremely high, with the judges commenting that they were very impressed with the meals produced by all of the competitors, and there were several dishes they would have been happy to pay for in a restaurant! The competition was organised with skill and precision by Leven Rotarian Jim Houston, who commented that “The point scoring was so close; just one point separated Rose and Ben and 2 between Ben and Eve.”
All three go forward to the Scottish final on 1st March where they will compete against Young Chefs from South Scotland Rotary for the chance to go to the National final for all of Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland on the 29th of March.
Well done Rose, Ben and Eve, and good luck in the next stage.
