Jim Houston, District 1010 Young Chef Coordinator, is keen to know as finding a venue(s) and judges for the District and Scottish Finals will need to start soon. To help him, can you contact Jim to confirm that your club will be participating.
The expectation is the club competitions can take place any time from November 2025 through to the end of January 2026.
The RGB&I final for the Rotary Young Chef Competition will be held on 26th April 2026; as a result, we look to have the Scottish final on 22 March 2026, which means the District final should be complete by 22nd February 2026.
Young Chef 2025-26
The Rotary Young Chef competition, sponsored by Filippo Berio, gives entrants the chance to develop their culinary skills and be judged by leading industry professionals.
Entrants plan and cook a two-course meal (main course and dessert), develop their food presentation skills, and gain experience in high-pressure situations.
Whether you’re keen on a culinary career or just an enthusiastic home cook, this competition is a fantastic opportunity.
The competition is open to all schools and college communities and those who are home educated, along with any other young peoples’ community organisations, for example, community RotaKids, community Interact, Scout Groups, Girl Guides. Entrants must be between the ages of 11 – 17 (as of 31st August 2025).
There are four stages to the competition, each designed to support and encourage the development of cookery skills. The first stage is a competition at local level where the Rotary Club will organise a competition. Winners then take part in a District Competition which is followed by a Cluster final and, in due course, a national final.
The winner of the Rotary Young Chef National Final will receive a prize of a two-day trip to Tuscany, which includes cookery classes to learn the secrets of regional Italian cooking.
This competition aims to encourage young people to:
- learn how to cook a healthy meal
- develop food presentation skills
- consider food hygiene issues
- develop organisational and planning skills
- develop an ability to cope in a demanding situation

The Rotary GB&I final for the Rotary Young Chef Competition will be held on 26th April 2026; as a result we look to have the Scottish final on 22 March 2026, which means the District final(s) should be complete by 22nd February 2026. The expectation is the club competitions can take place any time from November 2025 through to the end of January 2026.
Last polling of the clubs who were considering participating in the competition was encouragingly high, potentially, requiring a two-venue approach for the District Final. However, as the months past, numbers dwindled and only a single venue was required.
If your club is interesting in the Young Chef competition, start your discussions with your schools or other organisations as soon as possible after the term restarts in August. Give me a
headache, let’s have a bumper competition for 2025-26 and field strong candidates for the Scottish and Rotary GB&I finals next year.
Any young person who is interested in taking part is invited to contact their local Rotary Club HERE.
