ShelterBox Update

ShelterBox Monthly Snippet

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

The response from ShelterBox to the disaster in Nepal has unfolded quickly and effectively.

The first phase, delivered in partnership with Islamic Relief and Rotary in Nepal, took place in the first weeks after the disaster and focused on the rapid distribution of locally procured items - tarpaulins, sleeping mats, rope, pillows, blankets and other essential household items - to around 1,000 households. These are families who have completely lost their homes and are living in schools and other government buildings or staying with family members and friends.

The second phase, in collaboration with People in Need, will support an additional 1,000 households with imported items including family tents, tarpaulins, household items, solar lights, high-thermal blankets and supplies to help people survive the winter. These

items are being transported by helicopter to remote upstream communities and will be distributed over the coming weeks and months.

The response to the Nepal appeal from D1010 has been very generous, which, when combined with donations for Venezuela and Stock the Box, totals over £29,000 from 40 clubs. This is more

than last Rotary year’s entire total and equates to at least 50 families receiving support from our district alone, a quite remarkable achievement.

Thank you all very much indeed and please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further information or help.

In appreciation.

Yours in Rotary and as ever,

Kerr
