Get Involved!! Shape the Thames Valley through Rotary - DG Neil Talgeri

Welcome to the home of Rotary District 1090, proudly serving the Thames Valley across Berkshire, Oxfordshire, South Buckinghamshire, and the London Borough of Hillingdon. This is a District rich in heritage, impact, and fellowship — and now, we invite you to be part of an exciting journey as we shape the New Thames Valley Rotary for the future.

District 1090 brings together nearly 1,300 Rotarians across 54 Rotary Clubs, Rotaract Clubs, Satellite Clubs, and Impact Groups, led by District Governor Neil Talgeri PHF. Together, we are not only continuing a proud tradition of service, but actively evolving how Rotary serves modern communities with greater relevance, innovation, and purpose.

A Global Network, A Local Mission

Rotary unites more than 1.4 million members across over 200 countries, making it the world’s largest service organisation. Yet Rotary is far more than a global institution; it is a movement of people committed to fellowship, ethical leadership, and meaningful service. We like to grow to support more communities who need help in the Thames Valley; be a change and the driving force by joining Rotary in the Thames Valley through Contact Us link.

Here in the Thames Valley, we are harnessing that global strength to create stronger local impact. Our members come from diverse professional and cultural backgrounds, united by a shared vision: to create lasting, positive change in our communities and beyond.

Shaping the New Thames Valley Rotary

We are entering a new era; one that embraces innovation, inclusivity, and community-driven impact. The New Thames Valley Rotary is about:

  • Expanding membership and engagement across all communities

  • Strengthening partnerships with local organisations and leaders

  • Delivering high-impact projects that address real societal needs

  • Empowering the next generation through Rotaract and youth initiatives

  • Building a more connected, visible, and dynamic Rotary presence

This is not just about maintaining tradition; it is about transforming how we serve, lead, and grow together.

People of Action Creating Real Impact

Every day, our Rotarians channel their passion, integrity, and expertise into projects that change lives. From community support and youth development to environmental initiatives and humanitarian programmes, our work is driven by action, not just intention.

We persevere until we deliver meaningful and sustainable outcomes because Rotary members are, and always will be, People of Action.

Why Join Us Now? Be a Part of the Journey of Change...

As we shape the New Thames Valley Rotary, this is a unique moment to get involved and help define the future of service and leadership in our region.

If you:

  • Enjoy working collaboratively with purpose-driven individuals

  • Want to make a tangible difference in your community

  • Seek to grow your leadership, network, and influence

  • Believe in service, fellowship, and ethical leadership

Then Rotary District 1090 is the place for you. We warmly invite professionals, community leaders, young changemakers, and service-minded individuals to join us in shaping a stronger, more impactful Rotary across the Thames Valley.

Explore the clubs across our District to find one near you, or use the contact forms on this website to learn more about membership, partnerships, and opportunities to get involved.

Join us today — and help shape the New Thames Valley Rotary, where tradition meets innovation, and service creates lasting change.

With Best Wishes and Looking forward to meeting you

Neil Talgeri PHF, District Governor

Launch Reading

BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES: Rotary Club of Reading Abbey has started a project in conjunction with the local community. Launch Reading helps establish and develop new businesses in Reading by supporting and developing entrepreneurs in under- resourced communities in the local area. This is done by providing free training, business development services and networking opportunities.

The Rotary Club of Reading Abbey is keen to share this model with other clubs in the District. Please contact them for more advice.

Rotary Projects

Our clubs make a difference both locally and internationally. One of the projects that has been supported by the district is the Vocational Training Team. This is a team of 4-5 people led by a Rotarian who can all teach birth emergency skills to local health professionals. It has been going out since 2014 initially to Kamuli Mission Hospital and lately to Ngora Freda Carr Hospital. Has it made a difference? It has improved lives of local women and their babies.

We now cover menstrual hygiene and how to make reusable sanitary pads using a local charity. The women cannot afford disposable sanitary pads so they either use rags, banana leaves or dig a hole and sit on it all day. This impacts on girls getting an education, impacts on women's self-esteem and is an infection risk

It is also an opportunity for health professionals to update their skills because unlike the UK they don't do annual updates in birth emergency skills which all midwives, obstetricians and paediatricians have to do. There is a plan to support another hospital in Kampala.
