President's Handover Dinner

The President's Handover Dinner at Temple Golf Club

The annual Handover Dinner was once again at the beautiful setting of Temple Golf Club.
This year it was baking hot and very few gentlemen were (wisely) wearing jackets. The ladies looked resplendent in their summer dresses, drinking fizz on the terrace.
Jane Fowler as Vice President called us to order and started the proceedings, welcoming all Rotarians, family, friends and guests from Marlow Club and District.  David Simpson gave a very amusing welcome and resumé of Richard Hockly’s year as President instead of saying grace.

After the Loyal Toast we replenished our glasses ready for the Interlude. This kicked off with Jane and supporting cast singing a sketch about our outgoing President's time as a pilot.  Then in came John Prout with a reminder of Richard’s time as a racing car designer. This was followed by David Sutherland singing of his time as a lumberjack and Louise Prout as a cyclist. The song concluded with David Miller wondering what Richard could do next, now that he is no longer President. Perhaps he would take up golf or read books? Who knows?

After everyone had calmed down Richard gave a comprehensive recap of his year and the plethora of activities the club has engaged with and the amazing amount of money we have raised for good causes. He thanked Council for their support and in particular Nina to whom he presented the President’s Shield.

Regalia was handed over to our incoming President Jane Fowler who then thanked Richard for doing such a great job and remarked that he would be a hard act to follow.

As usual we concluded the evening with a toast to Rotary and peace the world over.
A great night!
