At the Dursley Rotary President’s lunch on the 19th May, attended by 40 people, President Neil Grecian presented the Paul Harris Fellow award to former President Chris Cherry. The President stated that Chris was a very community minded person and amongst other things he had been involved with the founding of Dursley Welcomes Walkers and was Treasurer of the Dursley and Cam Society. In Rotary he has done a great deal of work as Vice President, President and Youth lead over theyears. He has always had the welfare of the club and the community at the heart of all he has done. There has been leaflets for recruitment, a good link with the District Team, a rebooting of the Youth work with Rednock School and much behind the scenes work. His Presidency year was a time when changes were happening at national level in Rotary and if we were to survive as a local club changes were needed as well. He bravely led the club on the route to a less formal set up and a base at the Community Centre better suited to the modern world. The President said it was an honour to present to Chris, the Paul Harris Award for these achievements in Rotary and the local community. This Paul Harris Fellow Award, in the name of Rotary’s founder, recognises the contributions of individuals in the movement.
