REPORT FROM THE LATEST REPAIR CAFÉ

Hungerford Repair Café – 19th September 2026

When we saw several familiar faces turn up to our Repair Café in Hungerford last Saturday, we knew we must be doing something right. We think this shows that once people see what we can do, they come back for more.

But we do get first-timers through our doors too. One of them, bringing in a backpack with a strap almost hanging off, left us this feedback: "This is my first time attending and everybody was so friendly and welcoming. Extremely pleased that my bag could be fixed — thank you!" It's the kind of reaction that reminds us why we do this; it’s not just the satisfaction of mending something, but the friendly atmosphere works both ways too.

You don’t need to know anything about wiring, stitching, or sharpening to walk through our doors; that’s what the volunteers are here to help you with. Of the 51 items brought in on Saturday — vacuum cleaners, kettles, garden tools, even a beloved Panda Bear needing new stuffing — our volunteers fixed or improved enough of them to keep over 72kg of household goods out of the bin. That’s about the weight of an average adult!

If you’ve got something broken and gathering dust, or you’re simply curious, come along and see for yourself. Our next event is on Saturday November 21^st 2026 from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm at the Croft Hall, Hungerford. To find out more, or to join our team, email info@hungerfordrepaircafe.org.uk.
