Sensory Garden

Four Rotary clubs in Dublin - Central, Fingal, Viking and North came together to collaborate on building a sensory garden in what was then a dark and dilapidated space, hidden away and unused in the grounds of the Central Remedial Clinic in Clontarf. 

The Clinic's school caters for approximately 100 children ranging from 3 to 18 years of age. The CRC explained "From their early years right up to senior classes, environmental issues are explored, the changing seasons, water, sunlight, growth and plant life. This garden enables the pupils to come out of doors into a safe environment. The pupils all have a physical disability. Many are wheelchair users and have hand function difficulties. The devlopment of the garden, with varying levels of raised beds enables childern of all ages and sizes to access the soil, to feel it, to dig, plant and sow. Within a short time the garden had all types of wildlife, insects, butterflies, hoverflies, bees and ladybirds that the children could enjoy and learn to identify".

So many people gave of their time and money to realise this project but a special thanks goes to local Garden Designer Kevin Dennis, without whom none of this would have been possible and TV Chef Neven Maquire who was ambassador for the project.
